Lexington, Virginia

Salutations and greetings! Welcome to my blog!! I suppose writing a blog always seemed foreign to me. "Who would want to read what I write?" It just seemed strange to me and the question that comes to mind now is what to write about? Well enough stalling, let's start with an introduction and my favorite place on Earth.

My name is Erin Van Valkenburg, formerly Erin McIntyre. I have lived in Virginia all my life; Most in Richmond and almost a year here in Virginia Beach. I love Virginia, probably more than the average person and not because I've lived here all my life. I've been up North, I've been to the Deep South, and I've been all the way out West. I have seen God's beautiful places, but none more than Virginia especially the Shenandoah Valley and the town of Lexington.

Now anyone who knows me knows about my slight obsession with the town of Lexington. Most believe it has to do with the Virginia Military Institute, which is where I met my husband back when he was a cadet there. It's also where more than half of my friends go. The constant excitement of this small college town seems to breath new life into me.  It's where I was engaged and it's where I was married this past October. As a former history major, Lexington's history stands out for more than one reason or another. It's where two of the most famous Confederate generals lived and are now buried there. It's where the Virginia Horse Center is, and if anyone truly knows me, I adore horses. I rode horses for 10 years and I hope someday to get back into it...

Never before have I felt so passionately about a place before. I feel so drawn to Lexington, it's something that I can only describe as a calling. It truly is God's Country. Someday when Frank finishes his career in the Navy, we hope to settle and raise our children in this peaceful Southern town. There is an old saying that says "Happiness is knowing where you belong." I believe this to be so and with me, Lexington is my home.

"For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills." -Deuteronomy 8:7

Until next time, my friends!

Most Affectionately,
Erin
